Chair: 29″w, 28″d (seating height: 16 1/2″). Ottoman: 16″h, 29″w, 23 1/2d”. Produced by Herman Miller from 1963 to 1968. $7800. ON SALE: $5800.
The term Catenary comes from the term for the curve of a rope or string that hangs freely from two fixed points of different heights. This is the essential principle behind the design and construction of the chair. Two cables are hung from the chrome frame, fixed at only two points – front to the back. Two cables, follow the course of the catenary, and hold the eight parallel seat cushions.
